Fault F28 or Clean brew unit by hand

Fault F28 or the message Clean brew unit by hand appears on the coffee machine display.

There is an excessive amount of ground coffee added to the brew unit.

If too much ground coffee is added to the ground coffee chute, the brew unit will not be able to process the coffee.

The ground coffee will be directed into the grounds container.

The F28 or Clean brew unit by hand message appears on the display.

Switch the coffee machine off with the On/Off switch.

Wait 2 minutes before switching the coffee machine back on.

To make drinks using ready ground coffee, add a portion of ground coffee to the ground coffee chute. Only 1 portion of coffee or espresso can be made at a time when using ready ground coffee.

Some coffee machine models are supplied with a coffee scoop. Use the measuring spoon supplied so that the correct amount is dispensed.

CM 7xxx: When using the coffee scoop supplied:
Put exactly 2 level coffee scoops of ground coffee in the ground coffee chute of the coffee machine.

CM 6xxx, CVA xxxx: When using the coffee scoop supplied:
Put exactly 1 level coffee scoop of ground coffee in the ground coffee chute of the coffee machine.

CM 5xxx: Put exactly 12 g of ground coffee powder in the ground coffee chute of the coffee machine.

The coffee grinder channel is blocked.

In order to remove coffee residues properly from the coffee grinder channel, vacuum out the ground coffee chute once a year with a vacuum cleaner attachment (supplied in the scope of delivery where applicable).

Clean the ground coffee chute as follows:

  • Open the appliance door and remove the ground coffee drawer.

  • Insert the vacuum cleaner attachment. Use the suction tube of your vacuum cleaner to vacuum out the ground coffee chute.

  • Remove the vacuum cleaner attachment and refit the ground coffee drawer.

  • Close the appliance door.
